Prof. S.N. Ghosh

Founder Head of the Department

Prof. Satyendra Nath Ghosh was born in Calcutta on February 1, 1918. He received D.Sc. degree in Physics in the year 1948 from University of Calcutta.His specialization is in the field of Applied Physics, Electronics, Communication and Upper Atmosphere. He has published more than 250 research papers in Indian & Foreign journals and 65 students have been awarded Ph.D and D.Sc. degrees under his guidance. He has been the founder Head of the J K Institute of Applied Physics & Technology, University of Allahabad, Dean Faculty of Science (Thrice) University of Allahabad, Sir Rashbehary Ghosh Professor of Applied Physics, Calcutta University, Emeritus Professor of S.N. Bose School of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Kolkata. He is a Fellow of Indian National Science Academy, Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, Founder Fellow of west Bengal Academy of Science & Technology, Fellow of Indian Physical Society, Fellow of Institution of Instrumentation Scientists & Technologists, Member of Sigma XI, INSA, Fellow  of IETE and Member of Indian Astronomical Society. Prof. Ghosh has published seven volumes of collected works and several books. He was Editor of Indian Journal of Radio & Space Physics, Indian Journal of Physics, Proceedings of National Academy of Science. He was visiting Professor at University of Michigan for three years. He has received numerous awards and honours, including prestigious Sampurnanand Prize of National Academy of Science in 1960. He has been President of Engineering and Metallurgy section of Indian Science Congress in 1973 and INSA (1985). He is also a trustee of Indian Association for Cultivation of Science, Kolkata.

Prof. M. S. Bisht

Prof. Mohan Singh Bisht was born at Ranikhet (Uttranchal) on 30th June 1937. He obtained degrees of B.Sc. & M. Sc. (Tech) from University of Allahabad in year 1955 & 1958 respectively. He has a first class academic career right upto M.Sc. (Tech) where he was placed second in order of merit. He joined the JK Institute in 1958 as lecturer and retired as Professor & HOD on 30-06-1997 after a service of 39 years. He was the Head of the Department from 1974 to 1997 and Dean Faculty of Science from 1993 to 1996. He has published several research papers and supervised many R&D MHRD/AICTE/UGC/CSDIR/DOE projects. He has taken extra training at LRDE-Bangalore (1858) and York Technology, Southampton, UK (1989). He has visited UK, Germany and France. Prof. Bisht has been the President of Society of Electronic Engineers & JK Alumni Association till 1997; one of the directors of UP Hill Electronics (for three years); Chairman, USIC Administrative Committee and Computer Center Advisory Committee (till 1997). He actively participated in Teacher s Movement of the University and has been Vice-President (1977-81) and President of AUTA (1981-82). He has been member of different bodies of the university such as BOS, Faculty Board of Science, Academic Council and Executive Council (three times) etc. He has also been the member of BOS & Selection Committee of several universities, UGC Committees, MHRD/AICTE Committees and PCS & other services. He is life fellow member of IETE.

Prof. A. K. Gupta

Prof. Ashok Kumar Gupta was born on 10th November 1944, at Sambhal (Distt. Moradabad) U.P., Prof Ashok Kumar Gupta took his early schooling in Sambhal and Moradabad and University Education in Allahabad University B. Sc. (Physics Chemistry and Mathematics), 1960, M.Sc. (Physics with Specialization in Electronics), 1962, First Class, First in Order of Merit. He has been the Head of the Department and Professor in Computer Science, Department of Electronics and Communication, J.K. Institute of Applied Physics and Technology, Allahabad University, from 1997 to 2006, Director, Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies, Allahabad University, and Coordinator, M.Sc. Bioinformatics Program. He was senior research fellow of Science Research Council, UK from Oct 1973 to Oct 1974 in the Department of Mathematics, Imperial College of Science & Technology, London and Asst. Prof. in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, North Western University, Evanston (Illinois) from Oct 1974 to April 1977.

Prof. S. G. Prakash

Prof. Sat Guru Prakash was born on 12th December 1945. After graduating from Allahabad University in 1964 (Gold Medalist), Prof. Prakash took M.Sc. (Physics) degree in 1966. Thereafter he joined Physics Department as a research scholar and awarded D.Phil. degree in 1969 for research work in field of Electroluminescence. He was awarded National & CSIR fellowships. He joined JK Institute as a lecturer in 1970 and went to USSR in 1977 for three years for post Doctoral work in the field of Electrets. He was promoted to the post of Reader in 1984 and Professor in 1994. He has published over 55 research papers in various journals and has supervised 7 D.Phil theses in field of Electroluminescence & Electrets and guided some research projects. He has 36 years of teaching experience in the field of solid state devices. He is member of National Academy of Science, India and fellow member of IETE. He has served IETE Allahabad local centre as Chairman during 2004-06. He has published books on Solid State Physics in 1986, Statistical Mechanics in 1988, and Problems in Physics and review article in Wiley Encyclopedia in 1999. Prof. Prakash was head of the department for two years from 2006 to 2008 and Director, Computer Center, University of Allahabad. He also served as Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Allahabad from 8th Feb 2007 to 8th Feb 2010.

Prof. S. D. Dixit

Prof. Shankar Dayal Dixit was born on 28th July 1950. He did his B.Tech (ECE) in the year 1972, M.Tech. in 1974 and D. Phil. from University of Allahabad in year 1981. He has 35 years of teaching experience with specialization in Atmospheric & Planetary Science, Wireless Networks & Digital Circuits & Systems. He has handled several projects and has guided a number of D. Phil students. Prof. Dixit was head of the department for two years from 2008 to 2010 and Director, Computer Center, University of Allahabad. He also served as Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Allahabad from 8th Feb 2010 to 8th Feb 2013. He has been assigned several administrative assignments by the University. Currently, he is the Director of the Administrative Computer Centre, University of Allahabad. He is a life member of the Society of Electronics Engineer, Allahabad.

Prof. H. K. Dixit

Prof. Hemant Kumar Dixit was born on 30th Jan 1951 at Shahjahanpur, UP. He obtained B. Sc. (PCM), B. Tech. (ECE) 1972, M. Tech (Electronics) 1974 and D. Phil on the topic "Holography & Its Engineering Applications" in the year 1985 from the University of Allahabad. On March 1st 1975 he was appointed as Lecturer in Electronics, promoted to the post of Reader in August 1988 and Prof. in Oct 2001. He was the head of the department of Electronics & Communication, Allahabad and Director, Computer Center, University of Allahabad for two years from 2010 to 2012. He has visited UK, France, Germany and USA. Currently, he is engaged in supervising research in the area of Optical Fiber Communication. He is the fellow and Member of Academic Bodies such as IETE, ISTE, SEE and SISPS and Expert Member of several institutions. He has been assigned several administrative work by the University of Allahabad. Presently, he is the warden of Diamond Jubilee Hostel, one of the University Hostels. He supervised projects sponsored by AICTE, UGC and MHRD. He has guided a number of D. Phil students and has published a nimber of papers. He is an active member of Sri Ram Chandra Mission, an spiritual organization.

Prof. R. R. Tewari

Prof. Rajiv Ranjan Tewari was born on 23rd May 1956 at Lucknow. He did his matriculation in the year 1971 securing 21st position in the State of Bihar. After Graduating with Honors in Physics from Patna Science College in the year 1976, he joined University of Allahabad. He obtained the degree of B. Tech (ECE) in the year 1979 and M. Tech (Electronics) in 1988. He was awarded Pandit Kanhaiya Lal Gold Medal for securing Ist Position in M. Tech. Prof. Tewari worked as Hardware Engineer in Micro Computer Application Lab, University of Allahabad from 1982 to 1984 in the pay scale of lecturer. He served as Lecturer of Computer Science from 1984 to 1988. He was promoted to the post of Reader in the year 1988 and Prof. in Oct 2001. He was awarded K S Krishnan award for best paper on system design by IETE in the year 1987. On the invitation of Prof. Ken Sakamura, University of Tokyo he visited Japan to attend the First Asian Conference on Ubiquitous Computing in year 2003. Prof. Tewari was a senior member of IEEE and life fellow of IETE and SEE. He was instrumental in the Campus Wide Networking of the University of Allahabad. He is a member of several board of studies and technical bodies. He has published a number of papers and guided and a number of D. Phil  students. His area of specialization is Real time Systems, Embedded System, Fault Tolerant System Design, Computer Organization and Architecture, Multi Media Systems and Computer Networks.  He has been assigned several administrative assignments  by the University. Currently, he is the head of the department of Electronics & Communication, Allahabad and Director, Computer Center, University of Allahabad. He is also the Coordinator of the Centre of Computer Education, one of the centers of the Institute of  Professional Studies of the University of Allahabad where he is looking after programs such as BCA, MCA, PGDCA, CCC and D. Phil in Computer Applications.
