The Department of Electronics and Communication is widely known as J. K. Institute of Applied Physics and Technology as J. K. Trust had donated a handsome amount for its creation in the year 1949.

The University of Allahabad came into existence on 23 September 1887. It has a sound academic tradition and several extraordinary achievements to its credit. By 1904, the University established its own teaching departments and instituted doctoral research programmes. In 1921, it was re-organized as a unitary teaching and residential University. Further, over the next few years its affiliated Colleges were transferred to Agra University and the task of conducting secondary-level examinations was relocated.

The Department of Electronics and Communication (well known as J.K. Institute of Applied physics and Technology) is located in the Muir College Campus (Science Faculty) of the University of Allahabad. It has a very glorious past. Its foundation stone was laid by Late Pt. Jawahar LaL Nehru on April 14th 1949 and it was formally inaugurated by him on April 4th 1956. It was named as J.K. as J.K. Trust contributed for the construction of the complete building structure. It is a pioneer department in the country today for teaching and research in the discipline of electronics, communication and computer science.
